RB's motivation: I'M WIGGIN OUT BRO jk puns but seriously never again

Well I am never trusting Mallats again. Seriously wasted 50$ on wigs I can NOT use and can not return AT AT ALL. I know I should have tested out these things and thought more on my decision. But then I almost feel like they should have helped me make my decisions better like, "oh what costume are you putting together? Don't buy this then" They didn't exactly steal my money but ya know, no returns wtf.

Anyway here they are. I wanted to get a wig for Fluttershy and Notepad and I did not get them
This one looked promising, much shorter than I expected but I thought okay, 32$ should get somewhere
See and it looked like nice quality for a skin piece in the netting and extra volume around the head
And it turned out to be so fucking short. Like fluttershy isn't asking for a lot but I know she has long hair. Like it wouldn't have been a huge problem expect it has no hair in the back. My neck felt cold there was so little hair in the back
Now onto the white one. I was already uneasy taking it out of the bag here. It didn't need to be that long, just curly
And it didn't even seem that much curlier than the picture
And then I put it on and got mad, like really mad. As you can see in the picture. It made my head look so damn bug and the bangs were so thick and just ALL WRONG. I know I wasn't just cutting them wrong, they were made wrong..... It looks like a fucking elvira wig

So I said fuck it, I got to find a way to resell these things... So i turned it into an elsa wig. Just took the holding spray and an hour in my garage listening to music and sort of vented.

I need to work on my french braiding more, seriously it keeps comign out pretty loose....

On better wig news I got the pearl wig done. It'll need some got to be gel, but for only hairspray a ghetto wig stand, gravity, and the book of morman soundtrack I think it turned out well.

Bad pic of the front
Nice DBZ pic of one of the sides, this was all taken at 3 am. So only difficult selfies

And another pic of the side. I know I'm goind to have to do something bc it won't cover my dark hair fully. Like maybe putting in extensions or spraying my hair down with yellow spray before putting the wig on. We'll work it out

So to end this post here's some pics of Diva looking like a desk hooker in a Harley Quinn test run. Thank god she got a better skirt to complete the look more

Tata for now lovelies. SRP will hopefully update on Geek.kon bc I couldn't be there to enjoy it
(I'm in college and the dorm life is great)

RB's motivation: The standards of Pearl are high above this level of ghetto DGAF

DISCLAIMER: this level of ghetto cosplayer should only be viewed by fellow ghetto cosplayers at or near the same proclaimed level of Twin fools

With that out there now, let's begin this trip of oh my god really. I use this tutorial as my guide: sharpie wig dying tutorial

It calls for a plastic tub to soak the wig in. This giant thing was all I had. I reccomend for a much more appropriately sized tub, and also to have much more patience than I to avoid my mistakes and sloppy habits.

Since I had to dye both the wig and the shaper, with two different sort of colors, I decided to tape off the two sections. So I could dye both at the same time and make use of the obnoxious thing

Pay no attention to the old artwork in the back of the room. Here we have to dye the wig a lighter shade of orange. And the shaper a much more prominent pastel pink. Now both are pastel so at least I'm not fully worried if I don't have enough, or if the dye doesn't stick/make a very concentrated color. I was actually more scared of that than the opposite like you would be usually. Both bottles are just generic rubbing alcohol, bought from two different convenience stores

Now this stunk so bad I had to put it in the garage. Also my duct tape didn't fully work. But atleast the dyes didn't mix into opposite areas. THAT would suck. But honestly I don't think I would have minded if it spilled into each, at least for the shaper. The wig idk, bc I know it's not going to stick that well anyway.

But still something happened, and honestly this tutorial has worked better on clothing compared to wigs for me over the years, not that I dye wigs a lot a lot.

ewwwww it looks like coldcut turkey....and I had to touch it.

So after 90+ minutes I took them out of the solution and placed them on the tarp. Now awaiting them to by dry, and turning them over every so often. Also the shaper is MUCH MUCH pinker in real lighting. This is grody lighting. And it looks like if Fight Club were a musical, held in a suburban garage. I was almost making soap earlier....

ugh stinks so bad in there

Now onto the science that was trying to figure out Pearl's forehead jewel. I thought I could melt a candle into pourable wax. As I saw these soap molds were the perfect shape as inspiration. But I'm still wondering what will get that milky opaque color, but still wearable and malleable into the ideal shape.
So ignore that candle that ruined that cup on the right

I've now moved onto this idea which is using the 3D fabric paint in the tin. Now just waiting for that to become dry and solid enough to test out. If it works I'll try and attach it with body glue

I only had so much white fabric paint so I tried to fill it more to the line with some red. I made sure it wouldn't show through front side. But even if it does, I can paint over the paint, once of if it dries in the next day. It's pretty thick so I'm not judging this acrylic.

Another pic to show how thick the thing is. I tried to make it pretty small for MY forhead. People tell me I have a very small head.....

And last nothing to do with Pearl but I found a flower for Ruby Rose. It's not a rose, oh I know. It's a peony, but it was 1.99. Plus I wanted it to be very flat on the belt. I'm planning to paint this over with silver paint. And if I get the belt soon, attach it to there.

Since we're on Ruby Rose, I did find the cape at party city. I just have to make the hood part, which will not be much trouble, since I've done it before. Tomorrow, hopefully. But my real objective is to get fabric. If I can't get it all, I'm counting on the Pearl fabric at the least. OH I WANT THAT SHIRT DONE SO MUCH.

now we play the waiting game. Did I mention the rest of the dye is sitting in a pepsi bottle I found in the recycle bc I was desperate? No, well there is

RB's motivation: Pearl + Puppycat Progress PS Ruby Rose

Alrighty! Honestly Notepad is becoming my life, after she's done it's probably onto Elsaba more than anything bc it's best to do ones that will take the most work FIRST.

Though Pearl is still going to be a slight challenge. Here's her latest progress. I don't want to show it here bc it's in a real raw stage but I did cut up the shirt. Originally it was a teal peplum shirt with a BOOB WINDOW. It was stupid and annoyingly uncomfortable. SO I GOT TO GET RID OF IT!!! I will have to use parts as patterns for later when I get the real fabric....

I will also have to dye the shaper into the pink color it is. But once I get the shirt done for Pearl all that's really left is the wig, the forehead jewel, and just makeup tests.

It looks ok orange, but I need it pink

Then there is the surprise that is puppy cat. This is 90% done. All I need to do is make the jacket out of tha flannel material. I couldn't find my white one for the test run, here's a cow sweatshirt. But all that is here will be at Daisho, this might be a sunday outfit with how low maintenance it is compared to my other two

I bought the shorts, reusing pearl leggings, reusing Kugelmugel wig, made pouches for the braided pigtails for the Siamese aesthetic, reusing boots, and made the bell collar

Close up. I took a collar off a pink shirt and just added a button to close it up. Bought the giant bell, it's very annoying, almost went deaf. Added a key ring to the bell and walla here we go. I call it the comfort bell. Probably my favorite part of the outfit so far

Finally Ruby Rose update. I made pretty good progress on her I think. I got the shirt from savers. Reusing the skirt from an old Hellgirl cosplay. May iron it out later. Found the perfect crosses at Party city since they sell nun costumes. Took them off the chains and just glued on stick safety pin things. Tights and beautiful boots by Target. Petticoat as well by Party City. Thinking about buying the cape from there with thinking about how much fabric I'm gonna have to buy this week......money

I honestly keep foregtting about the belt and cincher bc I have no idea about them really. I don't know if I have time to make the cincher or where to get a belt that large and flexible. I'm thinking the bullets from party city again. And I knwo I'm gonna press and spray a rose, real or fake idk. Learned that from the Cosplay fox. And maybe wait for the wig to arrive.

And I thought I might have time to make the scythe. Pssh. Did I mention I move into college, Wednesday the 20th?

RB's moitvation: Head to TARJJJJJAY and PARTAAAAYYY CITAAAAAY

I lost my ipod, so far. So pictures will be up later if I can find it. But just know THERE WAS SO MUCH FUCKING PROGRESS from just two stores. Like 50% of Pearl is probably done now.
This is all that's left for her:
-wig dyed and styled
-body paint
-pearl head jewel
-GOT THE SHAPER just need to dye it to the right color
-cut and sew the shirt into right style
-make the star on the shirt

Like seriously the shaper is a much better idea than shorts b/c no fucking pockets so more true to her designs and IT FUCKING SHAPES. I'm literally wearing 3 layer with the tights and the shaper constricting my stomach so much. It actually is making me hungry bc it's squeezing my stomach so much.

Also I got the shoes, they're not like I want but I what I want was online for twenty dollars plus shipping and probably not the right color. This is woven fabric but five dollars and the right size and I can wear them now So whatever. Flats still don't fit me but that's fine, if three layers of tights, socks, and hose stocks won't make them fit nothing will

Notepad progress not as much, but I do know exactly where I will get fabric (using a craft market gift card I forgot about)
I got
-the gloves
- and a petticoat that turned out to be childs size again. I swear only at party city. But I get to return that and go look for black lipstick SO GREAT.

Much more progress on Ruby Rose. Honestly she's a big fucking deal and she's coming up way sooner than than Elsaba or Fluttershy yet I focus on her the least. But not today
-got the red petticoat, THAT FITS beautiful, atleast I got the right size for this one.
-crosses, another party city find. Just found nun's rosaries that were simple enough AND the right size. Get to pin those up to the cape once that is made
-FOUND, not buy some options for the shirt. I'm splitting up her outfit bc sometimes it's seen as a dress, but I would like to pee without problems. I'm thinking if I can't find a turtleneck at savers, going with a sort of athletic gear. Granted those are shit expensive, 40 $? Really? Yeah....bc some people work out in winter
-Have ideas for the belt and accessories, thrift shop skirt probably. And waiting on the wig

Elsaba had progress as well
-hair extensions will be on the wig trip to mallats
-beautiful green tights and spider web leggings. That's right layers.
-FOUND a corset idea. Either wait till Party City gets a black one in, wait for Hannah art trade, or buy a puma one and just cover that shit up. B/c elphaba in the play, her corset it actually covered in rags and it's very layered and goes great with her character of nobody does good for the wicked, treated like trash.
-also FOUND ideas for the cape. Going to layer a red spider web fabric with a black sparkly fabric to go with the Elsa nature
-may use that fabric for the sleeves, who knows
-using my own shoes, bc they were the inspiration

Fluttershy we don't really have anything but ideas. And she is the least of worries
-wings, we're going to feather the shit out of them later, b/c have the working base
-wig is on mallats trip
-found a lot of nice pink dresses so if thrift shop can't give me options, I'm thinking of buying a pink dress and turn the sweater int a cardigan
-still need fucking pink butterflies. There's a strange sentence. But still it's harder than you think

Puppycat
-I got my khaki shorts, very happy. Even if they have fake pockets, (WTF)
-just need to make the jacket and definitly put pockets in them
-and sew the brown pouches probably tomorrow on a sewing day at tricias

SO far this is my progress. May just make a video of my haul

RB's motivation: Plato's closet is excellent

Now think of that last word as said like out of wayne's world. But another shopping day with a certain Hime, very excellent. Did you know Plato's closet is an excellent ground for inepensive shopping. Designer shoes for like 10 bucks? I'm on it bro

Now here are the three things I got for cosplay among the many others I got for casual use....
I could have gotten more but honestly that was much better quality clothing than I was used to and didn't want to waste it

Here's a shirt for Pearl, get to deal with that later. Tear it up, alter it down, and add more see through fabric. A very long beautiful skirt for Elsaba, thinking of doing a shirt/corset combo rather than a maxi dress alteration like I'm thinking. I just really loved the material and flow of this one.
And the best: Boots for Notepad, suede fabric, not too tall heels, zip ups no lace ups. All for fucking ten dollars bro. They were actually 3 sizes up than my actual shoe size but thankgod b/c my own size would have been too skinny on my calf muscle. It's already a tight squeeze in these

Pearl shirt tried on. Another ten dollars, bought it just in time. Get to cut out the stupid boob window that is useless and unflattering for slumped shoulders. And replace the peplums with a sea through fabric. I could have gotten the shorts as well but at the time I was unsure of the color.
May go back for them later or go with the dying technique, we shall see.

And finally best, What I have for Notepad so far. Not much now but all the work that skirt took in is ALOT. Still need to add more, but what can you do when you run out of like two yard of fabric. Also petticoat! But still all with the ruby leggings and amazing boots.

I will not paint the boots now that I see them. I really like the staunch black and white feel. Plus I just don't want to ruin these shoes. They're too beautiful. Like there's a very subtle purple gradient here but I think I can go without (always changing shit up when it gets too hard/technical)

That sludge will be the death of me. I'll possibly add more later/straighten it out later.

RB's motivation: Shopping days

Okay so excellent day with a certain Misaki cosplay, our Hime. Got lots of stuff for her projects, including very interesting gypsy eeveelution supplies. As well as some stuff for my own list.

I mainly needed to do legit shopping, because I'm an augmenter not a seamstress. So number one priority was shoes for Ruby, Notepad, and Pearl. I needed combat boots for Ruby, suede stripper boots for Notepad, and turquoise flats for Pearl. One out of these three were found and bought on sale.

And for 30$ I am in love. Excellent rubber/maybe whatever plastic boots perfect height, sole platform and just everything for Ruby. All I got to do is change the laces put in the red tufts at the top and make a decision.

To dye the soles red or to not? I'm think wax in the way of makers mark is done. I have an idea but I do not want sacrifice my beautiful boots so quickly. And I can live without the red sole, but to never a take a chance?

Embedded image permalink

Also realized I could buy everything for Pearl between Target, The Mall, and  the internet. This is not including the wig and body paint. Still don't know about the paint. But I do know I just need the hair extensions, dye it, and then styling. All that is trully up in the air is the pearl emblem, might have to make my own.

But still huge progress on Pearl, I got the white leggings AND THE SOCKS. All at Target. Do you know they have an amazing sock section? I love it so much just no idea how much.

For Pearl's shots I am thinking of getting a body shaper and dying it the salmon color. Too bad they're like 20 bucks....

Last but not least is fabric for Puppy Cat! It's a plaid cream color, didn't really show up well. But I love it! Originally I wanted just a cream color, but they didn't have a cheap one that wasn't pure blanket material. Cuz I wanted it soft, but not like buried. I wanted it to be like a mix between cat and dog fur. This isn't like that hybrid but it's soft, light, right color, was on sale, and definitely interesting. Got a yard of this and very interested in making this into the Puppy cat coat soon with Lulu!

Cuz basically I just need the coat and puppy cat's done b/c I will be using the same leggings from Pearl for Puppycat. Or I will be stupid and get cream colored leggings. B/c I need to have every single color......srsly

Looking so forward, maybe next time I can discuss ideas on Elsaba!

RB's motivation: Life update only!

Okay so this time let's just see what my life looks like right now. This is my room, if you could read pixel you could see one of the boxes says cosplays on it. Boy that was a rough road on memory lane, so much stuff to remake just for pride. So many beautifully embarrassing mistakes from 8th grade

And below you will see my breakfast, hash browns with syrup, cut up bananas, and complimentary water (because only nazis rob people of sunlight and water) I think this is how I'll start all mornings because I am NAUSEOUS AS FUCK in the morning. This is also why I am NOT a morning person. I'm not used to it, I'm an insomniac. And I'm lactose intolerant and tire of certain foods easily when I eat them constantly. So there's not a lot of breakfast food I can eat on routine. I think I'll stick with bananas or so.

Onto actual cosplay! So I won stuff from the cosplay fox! Didn't know I would be moving closish to her, same city bro. I think I will end up being a loyal customer of her, as she's an insomniac, hard worker, proud of her work, motivated, and very easy to reach.

As you can see I was very excited to see it when I got home

So it was a scrap bundle of stuff she knew she wouldn't need anymore. Which isn't big, but for the girl that's been doodling since she was two and would still practice stick horse with a broken arm, cuz it didn't make no difference) and only ever received honorable mentions. It's a pretty big deal to actually win something (probably because I was much easier to ship to than international)

But yeah it came with these three rolls of ribbon, I love the sparkly blue bit most of it is extra and for whatever the future holds. The really important stuff is I got ALOT of white fabric to tear up for the notepad skirt, shiny orange fabric possiblu for Elsaba as well as some soft suede, corduroy textured fabric, that maybe for elsaba as well. Who knows, but I have it so great!

Another catch is I got an Armin wig XD. I'm going to attach extensions and dye the whole thing into a pearl wig later on

You can imagine how much fun that's gonna be. Also realized I can BUY most of her stuff at Target and the mall, but mainly target! Excellentness

RB'S motivation, 2014.

RB here and I guess this will be a yearly thing but the cosplay season has officially started for me now! I don't really get to go to conventions much anymore because of my commitment to my job and life complications but since I'm going to college I get a little bit more freedom. Like I only really have been able to go to geek.kon and once to comic con chicago in the last two years. So this season will be a whole new ride.

This time I'm prepping for
-possibly Comic Con Chicago
-Anime Milwaukee, seriously haven't been in 2 years it's weird
-Daisho, first time going;. no idea what to expect.

I'm always worried about money. Notably on spending it on things I want like souvenirs. But I'm going to try and enjoy myself bc geek.kon has been a lot of sacrifice sometimes in the past two years. And as the only con in two years it's a little sad.

BUT I LOVE COSPLAYING TOO MUCH. So here we go, the list so far to be spread between these three cons.
-update vanellope (mainly redo the licorice, and the leggings, and maybe add more candy barrets)

-RWBY (Ruby rose)
- Pearl (Steven Universe) (srsly look at how much stuff you can get just from forever 21. Love how much you can tell her design is a product of post 2012)

-Don't hug my I'm scared NOTEPAD (design by mookie000 on tumblr, love her so much)
-elsaba, (Elsa of FROZEN +Elphaba of WICKED) my own original design and alterations though (This is an example) (Definitely vibing the whole spider webs for the snowflake cape)

- And finally FLUTTERSHY, been planning her since like tenth grade.

Thinking of this so far
-Daisho (notepad +RWBY+Fluttershy) cuz november
-Comic con (Vanellope) one day, easy, disney for western con, not to hot in summer
- AMKE (Elsaba +Pearl) worried cuz it'll be in Wisconsin winter.....brr gloabl warming vortex plz not again
Things might switch around, new fandoms might appear but so far, I finally have might fluttershy sweater in my hands so I'm leaning towards it will happen.

WHO KNOWS MAYBE I'LL LEARN TO WEAR CONTACTS, OMG
